Just 25 minutes north of the Falls, Niagara-on-the-Lake (NOTL) feels like a different world: tree-lined streets, 19th-century storefronts, flower baskets on every lamppost and more than two dozen wineries on its doorstep. It’s the perfect half- or full-day escape from the crowds — and the drive there is one of the prettiest in Canada.
How to Get There
- By car: Take the Niagara Parkway north along the river (about 25 km, 25–35 minutes). Skip the highway — the Parkway is the point.
- By bike: The paved Niagara River Recreation Trail runs alongside the Parkway. Rent a bike in Niagara Falls or NOTL; e-bikes make it easy.

- Shaw Festival — one of North America’s best repertory theatres, running roughly April to December. Book a matinee.
- Lakefront & Queen’s Royal Park — watch the sunset over Lake Ontario with Toronto on the horizon.

Wineries to Visit
