Most visitors never make it more than a few hundred metres from the Falls — and they miss some of the wildest scenery in Niagara. Just north along the Niagara Parkway, the river squeezes through the gorge in a churn of Class 6 rapids and spins into a giant whirlpool. Two historic attractions let you see it all up close.
White Water Walk
An elevator takes you 70 metres down the gorge wall to a quarter-mile boardwalk right beside the rapids. The water races past at around 48 km/h in standing waves several metres tall — some of the most powerful whitewater in North America.

Whirlpool Aero Car
Designed by Spanish engineer Leonardo Torres Quevedo and running since 1916, this antique cable car carries you 3,500 feet across the Niagara Whirlpool, suspended around 200 feet above the swirling water. Fun fact: you cross the Canada–U.S. border four times during the ride — no passport required, since you start and finish in Canada.

Nervous about heights? The Aero Car moves slowly and smoothly and it’s a standing ride — but if you’re very uncomfortable with heights, the White Water Walk is the better pick.

Getting There
